Developer plans wind transmission line off N.J. coast

A private developer with plans to build a chain of offshore wind farms along the East Coast announced plans today to build its first section of underwater transmission lines off the coast of New Jersey in 2016.

Atlantic Grid Development LLC’s total project is estimated to take 10 years, would span 300 miles and connect up to 7,000 megawatts of offshore wind turbine capacity. The New Jersey section would be partially operational by 2019 and provide 3,000 MW to 1 million households
